Dear Spartan Community,

San José State has long been recognized for its excellence in student success, faculty research, scholarly and creative activities. It is also well known for the amazing work that both faculty and staff do to provide opportunities for first-generation learners from diverse backgrounds. All this hard work is recognized yet again in the U.S. News and World Report’s 2024 Best Colleges rankings.

Released earlier today, the U.S. News rankings show SJSU as #4 overall among all universities in the West region. The university ranks  #1 best value among public universities in the West as well. We are also ranked in the top 3 in the categories of Most Innovative Schools and Best Colleges for Veterans in the West, and our undergraduate engineering program finished in the top 10 among public non-Ph.D-granting schools in the West. SJSU also ranked #3 among public universities in the West for campus ethnic diversity, and our nursing, business and computer science programs ranked in the top 20 in the state of California. Though San José State has been ranked before, the 2024 standings show a move upward for our university in most of the categories above, as we moved from #16 overall last year in the West Region to #4 this year.

U.S. News isn’t the only national publication noticing SJSU. In just the past few months, we have also been recognized by:

  • Forbes, which included us in the top 10 among public universities in California
  • The Wall Street Journal, which listed us among the top 20 public schools in the state
  • Money, which gave us a 4.5 out of 5 grade and ranked us in several best-of categories

These rankings highlight the overall journey our students take when they come to SJSU – our nationally recognized programs are designed to create opportunities and promote your success, not only during your time on campus but also after you’ve graduated and moved into the workforce. This doesn’t happen without all the incredible collaborative work that happens here at SJSU among our students, staff and faculty.

Congratulations for earning the recognition of yet another major collegiate ranking. I am proud of this university, and proud of you.

Sincerely,
