Dear Spartan Community,

After more than five and a half years of service to our university, Vice President for Student Affairs Patrick Day has informed me of his decision to leave San José State. Over the last 10 months, I have had the opportunity to witness his impact across the Division of Student Affairs and his dedication to students and the entire Spartan Community.

Since arriving on campus in 2018, he has overseen the creation or transformation of a wide variety of programs and initiatives, including:

  • codifying the institution’s first enrollment plan, meeting or exceeding CSU enrollment targets and achieving SJSU’s largest enrollment ever in 2021.
  • the addition of the Center for Asian and Pacific Islander Student Empowerment, and the Native American Indigenous Student Success Center.
  • a centralized SJSU Cares office and expanded capacity in campus residence halls.
  • a Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) plan to support student mental health across campus.

Vice President Day has played a key role in promoting student safety during his time at SJSU, not only leading dedicated teams in the Student Wellness Center and University Housing through the COVID-19 pandemic, but also co-chairing the Task Force on Community Safety and Policing. He has also consistently served the university and the CSU system in a broader sense through various leadership and advisory roles, including his membership on the California Student Aid Commission.

San José State has benefited from Vice President Day’s commitment to holistic student success, and I hope you will join me in thanking him for his leadership, work and service.

Sincerely,
