The San José State University Ed.D. Leadership Program prepares the next generation of leaders with the knowledge, skills, and dispositions necessary to understand the causes of inequitable outcomes in PK-12 and higher educational institutions. Students in this program are also simultaneously prepared to assess and develop pedagogies, practices, policies, and curricula to improve the life chances for all students, including but not limited to minoritized students.
We are excited to announce a new opportunity: our combined Ed.D. and preliminary administrative credential, offered in partnership with the Santa Clara County Office of Education's Leaders in Educational Administration Program.

Why Students Love the Ed.D. Program:
"I have learned how to contribute to the Ed.D. program by focusing on how to apply research to resolve current real-world problems in the field of education and learning. I have the opportunity to learn how to interpret the latest research, and then use that research to develop strategies to improve educational outcomes in a variety of settings. The problem-solving skills can give me the ability to effect meaningful social change, whether you are helping improve a public school district, spearheading a public information campaign, heading up a university initiative, or achieving another valuable educational goal." —Phoebe Paxton ('26 Ed.D.)
"The San Jose State University Ed.D. program is outstanding and has positively impacted me both professionally and personally. Not only does the program provide theoretical knowledge, but it also provides hands-on learning through a study abroad experience. Professionally, I have taken the learning obtained through my coursework and directly applied it to my leadership skills to create transformational environments of change in preschool-adult school systems. Personally, the program has given me a broader social justice perspective, increased my emotional capacity and challenged my resiliency. Through the program, I developed long-lasting relationships with doctoral students who were passionate about transform." —Manny Nuñez-Astorga ('18 Ed.D.)
“My biggest “aha moment” in the program was being able to listen to some of our lectures or some of our discussions and realize how much I am learning from my cohort, and how valuable it is. I know the Ed.D. program is going to create opportunities for me and expose me to different avenues in the educational field." —Nikki Dang (21' Ed.D.)
Ed.D. graduates are able to select from a range of career options because the program courses offer students the skill set needed for leadership success efforts to reform schools, engage communities and increase student achievement.
